Insight from the May #XchangeSA chat —
As this twitter chat is geared mostly towards current PT students, I participate a little, but I mainly just listen in. This was the 3rd chat I ‘attended’ and each time I get a better idea of the profession that I hope to enter one day (hopefully soon!).
One take away: Podcasts are popular! I’ve talked about podcasts before in My Simple Everyday Breakfast, but I didn’t realize how often people listened to them! I listen on long drives, but it turns out that a ton of PT students and PT’s listen to podcasts regularly — like 2-3 a day!
This surprised me!
It also made me realize that more people than I thought really enjoy them for not just a long drive, but for every day entertainment and learning. A lot of them listen during workouts too!
[SIDE NOTE] Anybody listen to podcasts during a workout? I have never tried this & always do music for exercising, but I’m thinking of trying this.. Send me your fav podcast to listen to during a workout plz!

Physical therapy fun fact —
Have you heard of W-sitting? I just learned about it on my first day observing at the pediatric clinic. It’s when kids sit in a position where their legs make a ‘W’. Every time a child in the clinic sits like this one of the therapists corrects him/her. They either move their legs for them (if they’re small/young enough/can’t easily do this themselves) or they tell the child to sit, “criss cross applesauce.”
I learned that if a child always chooses to W-sit, then they are not getting to use their core muscles like they would if they sat with their legs crossed. Also, with constant W-sitting, the leg muscles become unbalanced to where the child has trouble touching his toes without rounding his back excessively.
